Three cricket formats and tournaments popular with Bangladeshi fans

Cricket is played in three main formats — T20, ODI, and Test. Each format has its own pace, strategy, and betting characteristics.

Format Duration Betting characteristics
T20 20 overs per team Fast results, many more market changes during live play
ODI 50 overs per team Medium-paced game, accumulator and top batsman markets are popular
Test Up to five days Long-term results, innings betting and draw markets are available

The most popular tournaments among Bangladeshi fans are BPL — the domestic franchise T20 league — and India's IPL. Betting interest also rises notably during the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy. Markets are most active during the Tigers' international matches.

Alongside cricket, sixs also offers the option to bet on football. Football has three possible outcomes (win, loss, draw) — limited-overs cricket formats have only two. Football also features more handicap and corner markets, while cricket is dominated by wickets, runs, and partnership-based markets.

Popular cricket betting markets

Understanding each market separately makes it easier to decide before placing a bet. Below is a brief introduction to seven common markets.

Match Winner

A bet on which team will win the match. In T20 and ODI a draw is not possible, so there are only two options. Example: choose either Team A or Team B.

Easiest

Toss Winner

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The outcome does not depend on match performance — it is a market based purely on chance.

Pre-match

Top Batsman

A bet on which player will score the most runs in a specific innings or across the whole match. You choose one player from within the team.

Player market

Total Runs Over / Under

The bookmaker sets a target run line. You say whether the total runs in the match will be above (over) or below (under) that number. Example: target line 165.5 runs.

Runs market

Top Bowler

A bet on who will take the most wickets in the match. Both innings-based and full-match markets are available.

Player market

Multi Bet

Multiple selections from different matches are combined into a single bet. If all selections are correct, the total return increases many times over. Example: three selections must all win together.

High return

Runs in the First Over

How many runs will be scored in the first over of the powerplay — a chance to bet over or under a set line. This market is especially popular in T20.

Decimal, Fractional and American — how to read three types of odds

Betting platforms generally display odds in three formats. Each format expresses the same probability differently — the return is the same in the end.

Example 1 — Team A wins, bet ৳200:

Decimal: 2.25 Fractional: 5/4 American: +125

If you win, total return is ৳450 — profit ৳250 plus the original stake of ৳200 back. If you lose, you lose the full ৳200.

Example 2 — Team B favourite, bet ৳200:

Decimal: 1.50 Fractional: 1/2 American: -200

American "-200" means you need to bet ৳200 to make ৳100 profit. On a ৳200 bet the total return is ৳300 — profit ৳100.

Remember: the lower the odds number, the more that team is considered the favourite to win. But being a favourite also means a lower return.

Multi bet example — three selections:

Decimal odds 1.70, 1.80 and 1.90 — total combined odds = 1.70 × 1.80 × 1.90 ≈ 5.81. On a ৳100 bet the return is ৳581, but only if all three selections are correct. If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

Multi bets offer higher returns, but the chance of all selections being correct at the same time is low.

sixs live betting in-play scorecard

Live in-play betting — odds shift when a wicket falls

The most engaging part of cricket is live betting — the ability to place bets while the match is in progress. The situation changes after every ball, and the odds update accordingly.

Odds change when a wicket falls

When the batting team loses a wicket, the bowling team's chance of winning increases and the odds number drops accordingly. A position of 80 runs for 5 wickets after 20 overs is very different from 40 runs for no wickets after 5 overs.

Powerplay and death overs

In T20, odds shift fastest during the powerplay (first 6 overs) and the last 4 overs. The market reacts instantly after a big six or a run-out.

Run rate and runs required

In the second innings, as the required run rate rises, that team's odds change rapidly. The harder the runs-per-ball equation becomes, the more the live odds fluctuate.

Day-by-day changes in Test matches

In Test cricket, the next day's odds are set at the end of each day's play, taking into account weather, pitch conditions, and batting and bowling performance.

Practical tips for betting — enjoy it as entertainment

Cricket betting is a form of entertainment. Having a clear plan makes the experience better.

01

Set a budget

Before each match, set aside a fixed amount. Staying within that limit is the most important habit to build.

02

Understand one market well

Rather than betting on many markets at once, start by focusing on match winner or over/under.

03

Live odds change fast

Before making a decision in in-play, check the scorecard carefully. It is better not to decide in a rush.

04

Take a break after losses

If you lose several bets in a row, take a short break rather than immediately trying to recover the losses.

How betting on football and other sports differs

One major difference between football and cricket is the presence of the draw result. This makes picking the correct outcome from the football "1X2" market (Team A win, draw, Team B win) slightly more complex. Limited-overs cricket formats generally have only two options.

In football, goals, corners, cards, and handicap markets are popular. In cricket, these are replaced by wicket counts, partnership runs, and specific over-based markets. The style of betting differs between the two sports, but the basic principle is the same — betting on a sport you know well makes decision-making easier.

Betting is also available on sports like Kabaddi, hockey, and tennis, but the variety of markets is lower compared to cricket. For Bangladeshi players, cricket and football are the most familiar, so decisions in these two tend to be comparatively easier.

Common questions about cricket betting

T20 generally has the most markets because the quick results and frequent matches keep the market active. ODI also offers a good number of markets. Test matches have comparatively fewer markets, but they include innings-based and day-by-day special markets that are not available in T20 or ODI.

Yes, in in-play markets the odds change within a few seconds after a wicket falls, a boundary, or a six. Often, right after a big moment (such as 3 wickets falling in the last over), the market is suspended briefly and then reopened with new odds.

Since both BPL and IPL are T20 format leagues, the main markets are nearly the same — match winner, top batsman, total runs over/under, toss, and so on. However, because IPL has more matches and greater global interest, more markets are sometimes offered.

Generally, selections from cricket, football, and various other sports can all be added together in a multi bet. However, two selections from the same match cannot be placed in the same multi bet — that is not permitted under the rules.

If an official result is declared using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a rain-interrupted match, that result is treated as valid. If the match is completely abandoned or the required number of overs is not completed, the relevant bet is cancelled and the stake is refunded. See the terms and conditions for detailed rules.
